Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation
If you or someone you know has heart, lung, or vascular disease, cardiopulmonary rehabilitation is a proven program that decreases the need for medication and improves the patients overall quality of life.
If prescribed by your physician, each patient will attend 2-3 sessions per week, up to 36 exercise sessions, each lasting for one hour. (Cardiac = Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Pulmonary = Tuesday, Thursday).
Both programs provide cardiac rhythm and rate monitoring along with blood pressure and pulse oximetry checks, before, during and after exercising. Patients rotate through four different modalities with the goal of increasing muscle strength and endurance by adding time and resistance. Disease process and behavioral modification education along with home exercise instruction will also be provided throughout the program.
In addition, a hospital based physician will complete a thorough intake assessment on each patient. Together, the Rehabilitation Coordinator and the Hospitalist will develop the patient's care plan for the program. Each care plan will be monitored and updated throughout the rehabilitation process.
Upon completion of the rehabilitation program, each patient will receive a discharge assessment by the Hospitalist. Periodic reports will be sent to each referring physician, keeping them updated on their patient's progress in the program.
Phase III supervised exercise sessions are readily available through Summit Therapy once the patient is discharged from our program.
We look forward to serving your health care needs with our Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation programs. If you have any questions regarding cardiopulmonary rehabilitation, please feel free to contact the Respiratory Department or speak to your physician.
